Nigeria-US ties are unaffected by individual visa decisions, according to Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation.
As seen on Arise Television, the Minister stated that each nation has the authority to grant visas.
He was answering inquiries about the limitations on US visas that Secretary of State Marco Rubio had imposed, which targeted people connected to purported religious persecution in Nigeria.
DAILY POST remembers that on Wednesday, the US administration issued visa restrictions aimed at Nigerians who finance or assist the country’s Christian genocide.
The Minister claims that Nigeria and the US are still maintaining regular diplomatic ties and are collaborating closely to overcome any obstacles.
Every country has the right to issue visas. The government of the United States, Nigeria, or any other nation, for example, has its own visa policy that it periodically analyzes.
“Perhaps you’re posing that query. Given the context of the recent tensions, let me state that Nigeria and the United States are still collaborating closely to find solutions wherever there are ambiguities or issues that need to be resolved. The Nigerian government is dedicated, transparent, and actively working with the United States to resolve any issues that need to be resolved in relation to some of the diplomatic tensions that have arisen.
“However, Nigeria and the United States continue to have normal diplomatic relations, and we are working perfectly together to ensure that we continue to advance the mutual interests of both countries,” he stated.
