Orji Uzor Kalu, a presidential candidate for 2023, has recounted how his friendship with fellow aspirant Bola Tinubu got him into trouble with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Kalu, the Senate Chief Whip, said his feud with Obasanjo began after he assisted Tinubu in re-election in 2003.

In 2003, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain revealed that he intervened to assist Tinubu, who was lagging behind.

Kalu insisted on Friday on Silverbird Television that they are not a threat to each other’s ambitions.

He stated that they are very close friends who have a strong bond.

“So we are like a family,” Kalu says, “and politics cannot separate us.” When Tinubu ran for re-election in 2003 and I saw that he was trailing, I stepped in to help him, which is part of what led to my feud with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

“So we’re a family, and we can’t fight over politics.” He may have a plan, and I may have a plan.

“But all I know is that if we meet at Eagle Square, I’m going to give a great performance.”

Tinubu and Kalu have both expressed interest in the APC’s presidential ticket.
