In 2022, Governor Nasir El-government Rufai’s has set aside N6 billion to upgrade and equip general hospitals throughout Kaduna.
This is contained in Mr El-N278.6 Rufai’s billion budget for 2022, which he signed into law on December 22.
According to the document, the health ministry will receive N15.7 billion in capital expenditure, with N7.4 billion going toward the ongoing construction and equipping of the 300-bed specialist hospital.

It also revealed that N282.9 million had been set aside for the construction of isolation centres, consumables procurement, COVID-19 intervention, and other public health emergency programs.
General Hospital Kafanchan, Saminaka, Birnin Gwari, and Hajiya Gambo Sawaba General Hospital Zaria received N51.6 million from the Kaduna government to build and renovate the standard accident and emergency unit.
Pambegua received N281.7 million for the construction of a new college of nursing and midwifery. N17.4 million was earmarked for 20 blood bank refrigerators for blood transfusion services in 20 secondary health facilities, according to the document.
The document also revealed that N370 million was set aside for the construction of a trauma center in Doka, as well as N28.9 million for medical equipment upkeep at the 31 secondary health facilities.

It also revealed that N861.7 million was set aside as a counterpart for a malaria program to strengthen systems for malaria prevention, quality assurance, and quality control.
Similarly, N62.6 million will be spent on drug-resistant tuberculosis, N188 million on the Kaduna Emergency Nutrition Action Plan, and N50 million on the World Bank-backed Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria program.
A counterpart fund of N50 million was also set aside for the Neglected Tropical Disease Control Programme.
The N15.7 billion set aside for capital expenditure was higher than the N9.1 billion set aside for the ministry in 2021, and the health sector received N40.9 billion, or 14.7% of the N278.6 budget, with N28.6 billion set aside for capital expenditure and N12.3 billion set aside for recurrent expenditure.
According to the document, Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital will receive N4.3 billion, with N1.7 billion set aside for capital expenditure and N2.6 billion set aside for recurrent expenses.

Additionally, N90.3 million was set aside for Kaduna’s Contributory Health Management Authority, and N840 million was set aside as a 1% consolidated revenue fund for free healthcare for vulnerable groups under the state health insurance scheme.
In 2022, the state government has set aside N661.3 million for the College of Nursing and Midwifery, N269.4 million for capital projects, and N391.9 million for recurrent expenditures.
