Tiffany Haddish, a well-known American actress and comedian, was treated like a queen when she recently visited Eritrea, her ancestral homeland. The actress, who had previously been offered citizenship, is said to have returned to East Africa to start a family project.

Her Eritrean flag was draped over her in a viral video, and members of her community surrounded her. “Tiffany Tsehaye Haddish Residence Geza Keren, Eritrea,” reads a plaque presented to the actress.

“I am so happy to be welcomed so warmly by my Grandfather’s village,” she wrote on her Instagram page, which has over 6 million followers. “I’m devoted to my people.”

Other celebrities reacted positively to the actress’ Instagram post, praising her for her visit to her homeland.

Despite being raised in the United States, she has a strong connection to Africa, thanks to her father, who instilled in her a strong sense of pride in her heritage.

She once walked the red carpet for the 2018 Academy Awards dressed in traditional Eritrean attire, attracting media attention.

“My father was from Eritrea, and before he died last year, he told me that one day I’d end up here.” He said, “I’m honoring my fellow Eritreans if I ever end up at the Oscars to honor my people.” Haddish explained.

She narrated her experience with the Eritrean traditional culture of Tsh, which is a local spa treatment, in addition to being feted by her people during this visit.
