The Supreme Court’s ruling on the Edo gubernatorial election of 2024 is scheduled for Thursday, July 10, 2025.
Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is reportedly contesting Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Edo State governor.
The parties to the issue were informed of the date of the verdict.
After hearing arguments from the parties, the court adjourned indefinitely last week.
The supreme court stated that a new judgment date would be announced in due course and reserved its decision sine die (without a set date) following the hearing of arguments.
Ken Mozia (SAN), Ighodalo’s representative, said that he received the majority of legitimate votes and that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ought to have declared him the winner.
In light of the legitimate votes cast, Mozia urged the court to proclaim our client the legitimately elected governor and to reject Obekpolo’s return.
But INEC, represented by Kanu Agabi (SAN), contested the appeal and urged the supreme court to reject it completely for lack of merit.

Agabi contended that in their appeal, Ighodalo and the PDP had first declared the entire election to be “illegal and invalid” because it was allegedly not in accordance with the Electoral Act 2022.
Agabi informed the court that it is impossible to undermine an election while simultaneously trying to gain an advantage from it.
They are acting erratically. It is impossible to proclaim a winner if the election is illegal as stated.
According to INEC, the Supreme Court should uphold Obekpolo’s election because the PDP’s appeal was full of inconsistencies.
After hearing from the parties, Justice Garba Lawal, who presided over the five-member panel, reportedly declared that a judgment had been reserved.
“We have deferred this matter sine die. Justice Lawal said, “All parties will be informed of the date of the judgment.”
