Social activist, Aisha Yesufu, has slammed Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Buhari, for allegedly ordering the arrest and detention of a Twitter user, Aminu Muhammed, over a perceived offensive tweet.

The report says that Muhammed, a final-year student of the Department of Environmental Management and Toxicology, Federal University of Dutse, Jigawa State, had in June posted a tweet about the First Lady on his Twitter page. He reportedly wrote in the Hausa language, “Su mama anchi kudin talkawa ankoshi” which loosely translates, “The mother has gotten fatter by eating masses’ money.”

Mohammed was venting his frustration and displeasure at the then-prolonged strike action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities following the federal government’s refusal to honour its agreement with the union.

Media reports indicate that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) picked up the 23-year-old Muhammed on November 8 on the university campus.

Reacting to the development, Aisha Yesufu, a very outspoken social justice crusader who shot into the national limelight through the #BringBackOurGirks campaign, described Mohammed’s arrest as unconstitutional and outrageous.

She said this on Sunday via her YouTube channel, insisting that the Buhari regime has indeed thrown 133 million Nigerians into poverty.

She said:

“This is so unlawful. Her husband has thrown 63% of Nigerians into multidimensional poverty. Haven’t they grown fat over the sweat of Nigerians? They have been thrown into multidimensional wealth. Who is she to arrest people for telling her to have eaten the riches of the poor?

“If she is this powerful, why wouldn’t she use her power to rescue Nigerians in captivity? A number of girls taken away from Federal Government College, Yawuri, for over a year now. You throw people into poverty. Nigerians aren’t secure.

“You should have told your husband not to be contesting.”
