Nora Häuptle, head coach of the Copper Queens of Zambia, has publicly acknowledged that her team was no match for the Nigerian Super Falcons.
According to reports, the Super Falcons defeated the Zambian women’s squad 5-0 on Friday night, July 18, in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) quarterfinal.
Speaking following the defeat at Casablanca’s Larbi Zaouli Stadium, the Swiss tactician acknowledged that the two teams’ levels of skill differed greatly.
“We have a very obvious loss. Congratulations on the well-earned win, Nigeria. “I believe that we must acknowledge that Nigeria was superior to us today,” Häuptle said.
After an impressive group-stage performance and a lot of pre-match excitement, the Zambian team entered the match feeling confident, however they failed to find the net once.
With three goals from Osinachi Ohale, Esther Okoronkwo, and Chiwendu Ihezuo in the first half alone, and two more from Tosin Demehin and Folashade Ijamilusi after the half, the Super Falcons, on the other hand, were merciless.
The coach of Zambia admitted loss, but Justine Madugu, the head coach of the Super Falcons, used the opportunity to consider the development of his team and the effort that had gone into winning.
“We have stated previously that it is a work in progress,” Madugu remarked. We concentrated on improving our service delivery, finishing, last passes, and other areas where we were poor. We witnessed the outcomes today.
Remember, the Super Falcons only managed four goals in the group stage and didn’t appear to be in control prior to the quarterfinal match. The performance on Friday night, however, seemed to be the result of careful preparation.
The victor of the South Africa vs. Senegal game, which is set for tonight, July 19, at 8 p.m., will play the Super Falcons in the prelims.
