In the early hours of Wednesday, troops from the Maritime Component of Operation Hadin Kai foiled an attempted entry by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Naval Base Lake Chad.
According to reports, the base is located at Fish Dam in Baga, Kukawa Local Government Area, Borno State.
According to intelligence sources who spoke with Zagazola Makama, the insurgents initiated their assault around 1:00 a.m.

They targeted the freshly acquired Swamp Boggeys recently purchased by the Borno State Government for waterway clearance activities in the Lake Chad basin.
The attempted sabotage resulted in a heated exchange of gunfire between naval troops and attackers.
Reinforcements from a nearby outpost in Baga were quickly dispatched to the situation.
“Although the base resisted the incursion, only minor damage was reported. “An ambulance and two other vehicles were destroyed, and some personnel were injured during the engagement,” one of the individuals said.
The shootout reportedly lasted more than two hours, causing the terrorists to flee without obtaining access to the Swamp Boggeys, which remained unharmed.
As of the time of writing, the Air Component Command (ACC) had initiated more aircraft operations to track down and neutralize rebels retreating along Lake Chad’s waterways.
According to military officials, more information is being gathered and will be released as the situation progresses.
