Elders of various communities in Bende local government have appealed to traditional rulers to urgently intervene in the political tension between their two sons, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.

The elders made the call during a visit to Eze Anthony Okorochukwu of Bende ancient kingdom, Bende LGA.

The elders, led by the former Chairman of the local government area, Emmanuel Onwuchekwa, urged the monarchs to tell the former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, to end his feud with Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and embrace peace.

The Deputy Speaker has absolutely no axe to grind with the ambition of Senator Kalu to contest for Senate in 2027 election, they said.

“Ben is not barring Senator Orji Uzor Kalu from contesting for Senate.

“They are running for two different offices. But why this level of hostility?

“We do not want any war between Igbere and Bende. “We are tired of this”, said the elders.
