Paul Ibe, the media adviser to Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accused President Bola Tinubu of seeking to keep the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, behind bars until after the 2027 election.
Ibe, in a post on his Facebook page on Wednesday, lamented that Nasir El-Rufai has been detained for 126 days.
Ibe said that the Tinubu administration is harassing and intimidating El-Rufai for defecting from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the ADC.
Ibe also described the ongoing trial of El-Rufai as a sham and politically motivated.
“Yesterday was day 126 of the abduction and detention of Mallam Nasir el-Rufai @elrufai, former Governor of Kaduna State and chieftain of the @ADCNig.
It should be clear to all by now, no matter what political leaning one is, that the Tinubu led APC administration is harassing and intimidating el-Rufai for breaking away from the APC.
The sham trial of the ADC chieftain is a political stunt. We have heard people begging him to go and make “peace” (whatever that means) with President Bola Tinubu, who is alleged to have determined to keep him until after the 2027 elections.
“The postponement of his trial until September seems to confirm this. While the bail conditions granted to el-Rufai are overly punitive and designed to keep him perpetually in detention.
“Indeed, the bail conditions only encourages civil servants to loot maximally and acquire assets and properties at all cost while in service.”
