Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, has come under fire from Tonye Cole, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Rivers State, for his affiliation with the ruling APC although professing to be a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In an appearance on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” program on Friday, Cole stated that Wike shouldn’t mislead people about his political affiliation.
Is he PDP or APC? He is PDP as of right now.
“We cannot continue to confuse Nigerians and the electorate in Rivers State because it is dangerous for democracy to be in one party and control another party, and we are trying to create a one-party state that is a mixture that nobody is clear about,” he stated.
Recall that Wike ran for president in 2023 by urging people to relocate to the South in opposition to his party’s Northern-born candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Later, President Bola Tinubu nominated the former governor of Rivers State as a minister.
In many forums, he has stated his support for the president’s ambition for a second term.
According to reports, the APC won 20 of the 23 councils in the Rivers local government election on August 30.
The PDP won three councils, including Obio/Akpo, where Wike was chairman for two terms in 1999 before becoming governor from 2015 until 2023.
