The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps’ Benue State Command has arrested a suspected human trafficker who was preparing six girls for trafficking.

On January 5, 2022, the suspect, Mnena Kwaghmande, was reportedly apprehended in the Gboko area of Benue, with the victims all set to travel to Burkina Faso.

Kwaghmande claimed to have told the victims’ parents that they would be helping her in her restaurant in Burkina Faso, according to the state Commandant of the corps, Dr Philip Okoh, who paraded the suspect and the victims.

The girls were allegedly selected from the state’s Vandeikya Local Government Area.

“We have a seasoned trafficker who goes around convincing unsuspecting parents that their children are going abroad for greener pastures,” Okoh said. According to the investigation, they were transporting them to Burkina Faso. This operation was carried out in collaboration with NAPTIP.”

He warned parents against releasing their children to people who promised them better opportunities in other countries.
