The Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has assured Nigerians that the Federal Government is making efforts to secure the release of children and other citizens currently held by kidnappers and terrorist groups across the country.
Shettima gave the assurance on Friday in Abuja after a special Jummat prayer held at the National Mosque as part of activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.

The administration is committed to overcoming security challenges and bringing long-lasting calm to the affected communities, he said.
The Vice President said the government would continue to work towards ending violence and criminal activities, adding that the present security situation would not stop efforts to return normalcy to Nigerians.
He said citizens should continue to pray for the country and each other.
Shettima said the bond that unites Nigerians is stronger than the differences that exist among the people, stressing the need for unity as the nation confronts her challenges.
“I want to assure Nigerians of the unwavering commitment of President Bola Tinubu in ensuring peace and stability in the country.
However long the night, the dawn will come. It might be stormy, but it won’t rain forever.
“The government is irrevocably committed to restoring peace and stability in the country,” Shettima said.
