Sani Mamuda, 45, was apprehended on his way to deliver two AK-47 rifles and two magazines loaded with 42 rounds of 7.62 mm live ammunition to bandits in a Zamfara forest on Wednesday.

He hid his weapons beneath the seat of his motorcycle as he rode to Zamfara state.

Mamuda, who was apprehended by Katsina Police Command operatives, is a supplier of arms and ammunition to bandits in the states of Katsina and Zamfara.

Mamuda confessed to taking the weapons to some bandits in Zamfara State while being paraded by police in Katsina.

He also admitted that on each rifle sold, he used to make a profit of between N50,000 and N80,000.

SP Gambo Isa, Katsina Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), told journalists that the suspect was apprehended on his way to Zamfara on Wednesday morning while delivering two AK-47 rifles and two magazines containing 42 rounds of 7.62 mm live ammunition.

“On December 22, 2021, at approximately 7:30 p.m., DPO Kurfi Division and team accosted Mamuda of Birnin Magaji Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State based on credible intelligence.”

“Mamuda, a notorious bandit and arms dealer who specializes in supplying weapons to bandits in the forests of Katsina and Zamfara states, was apprehended while traveling from Katsina to Zamfara states along the Kurfi-Batsari road.

“Other items allegedly discovered on Mamuda included 12,000 CFR, N49,500, one Techno handset, and two Airtel SIM cards,” according to the report.

“Mamuda confessed to buying the two rifles from one Masa’idu and one Abdullahi, who are now on the run,” Isa said.

According to the police spokesman, an investigation into the suspect has already begun, and the suspect will be arraigned before a competent court once the investigation is completed.
