The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Rivers State has fixed Saturday, June 20, 2026, for the conduct of a bye-election to fill the vacant Rivers South-East Senatorial seat.
The election is to fill the vacancy in the Senatorial District created following the demise of Senator Barry Mpigi.
Voting in the seven local government areas in the senatorial district would start at 8:00 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m., the Commission said.
The election will hold in 88 Registration Areas and 1,629 Polling Units in Andoni, Opobo/Nkoro, Eleme, Tai, Oyigbo, Khana and Gokana Local Government Areas.
This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Johnson Alalibo Sinikiem.
He assured residents, political parties and other stakeholders that the Commission was committed to a peaceful, transparent and credible bye-election.
