The police officer who shot and killed a truck driver, Mallam Kabiru Babai, on Friday in Ota-efun area in Osogbo, Osun State, has been identified, arrested, and held by the Osun State Police Command.
According to a statement from State Command Spokesperson Yemisi Opalola, an investigation and disciplinary actions have begun, and the suspect will be charged in court after the Orderly Room Trial is completed, which will serve as a deterrence to other officers.
While Commissioner of Police, CP Olawale Olokode, extended his condolences to the victim’s family, coworkers, and friends, he promised that justice will be done.
The cop brutalised the deceased, a 33-year-old borehole drilling truck driver, before shooting him.

The deceased was said to have been the driver of a Shekeena Global borehole drilling truck that broke down on Friday morning near Ikirun road. When the police officers arrived, he was trying to fix it with his staff.
The police officers, who arrived in a Korope mini commercial bus, took the driver from under the vehicle and assaulted him before shooting him.
It was also discovered that the deceased had a pregnant wife and a young child.
The state governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, denounced the police officer’s shooting of the unarmed truck driver.
He demanded that the events leading up to the incident be investigated, and he demanded that the Commissioner of Police bring the alleged killer to justice.

On Saturday, his Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan, issued a statement to that effect.
While praising the local youngsters for not taking the law into their own hands, Oyetola promised that the government will see to it that justice was served.
He expressed his condolences to the deceased’s family, employers, and friends, stressing that “we are dedicated to do all possible to protect citizens from actual and future threats” as a government.
