Police Foil Planned Kidnapping, Arrest Eight Suspects In Delta

The Delta State Police Command has reported yet another significant victory in the battle against kidnapping, having apprehended eight individuals under suspicion and discovered evidence of a plot by the gang.

Due to the Command’s unwavering commitment to defending the lives of the peaceful citizens of Delta State, members of a kidnapping ring that posed a threat in the areas of Oghara, Sapele, Warri, and beyond have been apprehended. After receiving information regarding the abduction of a 43-year-old woman (name withheld), who was driven in her ML-350 Mercedes Benz and abducted by a group of armed men on November 19, 2023, at approximately 2100 hours, on a tricycle along Shell Road Sapele. The victim was driven in her car until the petrol ran out, at which point they transferred her to their working tricycle. On November 22, 2023, she was freed when the ransom of two million naira (#2.000,000) was paid.

The ASP Julius Robinson, the head of the CP-DECOY Squad, was briefed by Commissioner of Police CP Wale Abass, who instructed the team to use all technically generated intelligence to track down the act’s perpetrators. Thus, on November 25, 2023, the team launched a sting operation with the help of DPO Sapele, which resulted in the arrest of Morrison Godwin, the 41-year-old male suspect from Okpara Water Side Community in Ethiope East LGA of Delta State, at the Amukpe Area of Sapele Town, at approximately 1100 hours on the same day. Godwin is the leader of the syndicate’s gang.

In addition to admitting to the crime, the suspect disclosed that he planned to meet with other gang members on November 25, 2023, to plan out another kidnapping attempt. Armed with this information, the team set up an ambush at their meeting place on November 26, 2023, and took the lives of the other gang members: Oghene Ogaga Sylvester “m” 45 years old, who guarded the victim; Henry Edeki “m” 35 years old; Ominike Sunday “m” 23 years old; Jerusalem Sunday “m” 35 years old; and Theophilus Akpofi “m” 29 years old. The victim has identified all of the suspects who have admitted to the crime and acknowledged their different roles.

During questioning, the suspects revealed the whereabouts of the victim’s car, which was subsequently found in Oghara Town. The mission to retrieve the syndicate’s weapons has been stepped up.

As the command is out to safeguard the collective safety of the people of Delta State, the Commissioner of Police Delta State praised the DECOY Squad for their diligence, which resulted in the kidnappers’ arrest. He also assures the public that more accomplishments are on the way. He repeated his call for the public to always have faith in the Police to prevent crime in the State and make sure locals go to sleep with their eyes closed. In a same spirit, they should be aware that everyone has a responsibility to provide security; therefore, it is critical to collaborate with law enforcement and provide them with all the information they require to combat crime.
