The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu has ordered that anyone carrying illegal firearms across the country should be shot on sight.
Disu gave the directive at a stakeholders meeting held at the Government House in Makurdi, Benue State capital on Friday
“President Bola Tinubu had directed that insecurity in Benue must come to an end, adding that only authorised security personnel were permitted to bear firearms.”
“The days of passive policing are over,” he said.

“You cannot just go around with arms as if there is no law and order in this country. I’m not big on these sorts of things.
“We’ve given them direction. We have a force of order 237. Officers have been told they do not need to wait for any order from above. They know where to put their guns.
We are sick of losing our men. We are fed up with policemen, soldiers and other security agencies dying like that.
they’ve got orders to shoot on sight. They’ve been trained to do whatever it takes. “But we cannot succeed without the cooperation of all of you,” the IGP said.
