Paul Ibe, the former vice president Atiku Abubakar’s media adviser, has called the president’s decision to reconsider President Bola Tinubu’s pardon a last-ditch effort.
No person who was granted clemency under the most recent exercise has been released from custody, according to a report from the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, which underlined on Thursday that the procedure was susceptible to revision.
The AGF Office said Thursday that the process was still in its final administrative stage, which includes a standard review to make sure that all names and recommendations fully comply with established legal and procedural requirements before any instrument of release is issued. The statement was personally signed by Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
The verification procedure, according to Fagbemi, was a regular procedure that demonstrated the government’s dedication to openness and due diligence.
“No amount of bureaucratic grammar can erase the moral recklessness of extending mercy to those who have violated the nation’s laws and conscience,” Ibe wrote in a post via 𝕏 in response to the move, claiming that the damage had already been done.
“This so-called clarification is nothing more than a desperate afterthought,” he continued.
Now, a government that hurriedly granted clemency to condemned criminals is feigning “a review.” The harm has already been done.
