The governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the nomination of businessman and politician, Martin Anayochukwu Oli, as a commissioner-designate in the state.
The nomination was disclosed in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor on Wednesday.
The statement said Oli’s name would be sent to Edo State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
The state government described Oili, a native of Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State, as a successful businessman and politician with a strong background of community service and grassroots development.
It said he had made significant contributions to the campaign for social and economic development and had become a leading figure in the Igbo community of Edo State.
It added that Oli had through his business and political engagements always stood for development-oriented initiatives and showed leadership in private sector.
“The nomination is a testament to the commitment of Governor Okpebholo to inclusiveness, unity and broad-based participation in governance,” the government said.
The statement added that the government remains committed to tapping from the expertise and contributions of persons committed to the development of Edo State irrespective of ethnic background.
The nominee’s confirmation is subject to the approval of the Edo State House of Assembly, the statement added.
