The reintroduction of the law program and the incorporation of artificial intelligence into the academic system are two improvements that former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called for at the National Open University of Nigeria.
When Prof. Uduma Uduma, the recently appointed Vice-Chancellor of NOUN, and members of his management team arrived in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Obasanjo made the call.
He also demanded that more students be enrolled.
The necessity for innovation and technology-driven academic achievement was emphasized by Obasanjo, according to a statement released on Sunday in Abuja by Ibrahim Sheme, NOUN’s Director of Media and Publicity.
“I implore the administration of the university to give modernization top priority and increase access to high-quality education,” Obasanjo stated.
According to Professor Olufemi Peters, the institution’s immediate former vice chancellor, it has made great strides in incorporating artificial intelligence into its course offerings.
“The university has received recognition from international educational bodies for its efforts,” Peters continued.
Regarding enrollment, he revealed that NOUN had at least 300,000 registered students, of whom about 190,000 were enrolled at the time of writing. He explained that the discrepancy was due to different attendance levels.
He said he was confident in the next vice-chancellor’s ability to foster institutional growth and maintain innovation.
During his speech, Uduma promised to integrate existing reforms at the university and give priority to the resuscitation of the law program.
Obasanjo’s ongoing support and contributions to the institution’s expansion were also acknowledged by him.
Later, the vice-chancellor went to the university’s Abeokuta Study Center, where Mr. Oyekunle Adegboyega, the Center Director, gave him and his group a tour of the establishment.
