NNPC discovers oil in Nasarawa as drill commences in March

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited says it has discovered oil in Nasarawa State & will drill the first oil well in the state in March 2023.

NNPC in a statement on Friday, January 13, said the discovery was in continuation of its oil exploration activities in the country’s inland basins. The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Mallam Mele Kyari made the announcement while receiving the Nasarawa State governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule & a top delegation on a courtesy visit to the company in Abuja, according to the statement.

“In continuation of its oil exploration activities in the country’s inland basins the NNPC Limited is set to spud the first oil well in Nasarawa state in March 2023,” he said. Kyari said results of exploratory activities confirm the presence of substantial hydrocarbon resources in the state.

He called for prompt action on the project as the global energy transition has led to a reduction in investment in fossil fuels.
