Borno South Senator Ali Ndume has called on military authorities to send troops to protect Kirawa and other nearby areas that border the Cameroun Republic and the Gwoza local government region.
After the Boko Haram ambush on the Kirawa-Pulka route at approximately 3 p.m. on Friday, which killed one member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (Name withheld) and injured numerous others, including drivers and passengers, he made this plea.
In his Saturday morning response to the incident that occurred in his district, Ndume bemoaned the lack of a military presence in Kirawa, stating that the area is constantly overrun by the few tenacious hunters, vigilantes, and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force.
He remarked, “It is really depressing that I got a distress call yesterday stating that some armed Boko Haram terrorists ambushed drivers and passengers on the Kirawa-Pulka road.” Since there is no military escort because Camerounian troops stationed in Kirawa were dislodged last month, the victims were led by a small number of members of the Civilian Joint Task Force.
“Sadly, one of our courageous members of the Civilian Joint Task Force was murdered during the gunfight in the ambush; as I write this, several others are still missing. Three trucks, a bus, and two Golf Volkswagen Saloons were among the at least six cars that were burned during the assault.
This is my opportunity to express my condolences to the families of the Civilian Joint Task Force members who have lost their loved ones. We pray for the speedy recovery of the injured and the safety of the missing, and may his soul rest in peace.
In addition, I would want to urge the military authorities to send troops, even if it is just a battalion, to protect Kirawa and its citizens, as my people have been living in constant terror ever since Camerounian troops stationed there were driven out last month.
