The Defense Headquarters has denied rumors that Bello Turji, the terrorist leader, had turned himself in to the police.
Several attacks on towns in the North-West have allegedly been orchestrated by Turji, a wanted bandit commander who mostly operates in the states of Zamfara and Sokoto.
A peace endeavor mediated by Islamic clerics in Zamfara State reportedly resulted in Turji giving up his weapons and releasing 32 kidnap victims.
But Maj. Gen. Markus Kangye, the Director of Defense Media Operations, said that they are still looking for Turji during a press briefing on the Armed Forces’ actions on Thursday in Abuja.
“Simple answer to the question about terrorist leader Bello Turji: we are still looking for him and he hasn’t surrendered,” he stated.
The governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has promised that individuals responsible for the state’s violence will face consequences.

As a response to the recent spate of bandit attacks that killed people in the Kauran Namoda Local Government Area, he made this statement.
The governor blasted the senseless murders and promised that divine intervention will bring the perpetrators to justice and disgrace them.
The five communities that were most hit were Banga, Sakajiki, Kuryar Madaro, Maguru, and Tambarawa. The visit was conducted on Wednesday.
There has been an alarming increase in bandit attacks in these areas, leaving many locals distraught and grieving the loss of loved ones.
When the latest attack happened, Governor Lawal, who had been out of the state, said he gave the Deputy Governor the order to send a high-ranking delegation to show sympathy for the victims right away.
In order to evaluate the damage and comfort the bereaved families, he traveled to the impacted areas after returning to Gusau, the state capital.
