Babachir Lawal, the former secretary to the government of the federation, has bemoaned the negative effects of the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) Muslim-Muslim ticket on the country.
Lawal claimed that the ruling party’s ticket has opened a Pandora’s box in an interview with Arise News.
According to him, Nigerians would find it challenging to reject a Christian-Christian presidential ticket in the future.
Lawal claimed that “when the leader chooses to practice evil, the society suffers,” implying that the country is currently dealing with the fallout from the Muslim-Muslim ticket.

“It has opened a Pandora box,” he continued. Now that a precedent has been established, Nigerians will find it extremely difficult to oppose someone putting out a Christian-Christian ticket. However, my dissatisfaction with the precedent stemmed from both a sense of equality and religious concerns. Equity must permeate all we do. If we don’t, we will be subject to the same repercussions as we are now because we have discriminated against the sick part of society and failed to demonstrate equity. I absolutely think that’s a contributing factor in the punishment we’re receiving.
“Society suffers when the leader chooses to act evilly. And that contributes to our current situation in part.
“I never forget that our regional balances are just as important as the ticket itself, whether it’s a Muslim-Muslim or Christian-Christian ticket. Before they can devote their energies to efforts to build and unify the nation, people need to feel like they belong.
