Jubril A. Gawat, a Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Social Media, responded to allegations suggesting that the Lagos state government intentionally chose to demolish Computer Village during the owners’ Christmas break. The accusation surfaced on Twitter, where a user questioned the timing of the demolition, expressing concern about the impact on businesses during the holiday period.

In the tweet, the user asked, “Why did Lagos State Government decide to demolish Computer Village when the owners are on Christmas break?” This query implied a perceived strategic timing by the government, waiting for a moment when the owners might be less prepared or available to address the situation.

Jubril A. Gawat promptly addressed the claim, disassociating the Lagos state government from the demolition at Computer Village in Ikeja. According to Gawat, the structure in question is owned by the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), and it was at their behest that the demolition was carried out. He refuted any involvement of the Lagos State Government in the decision to demolish Computer Village.

Gawat emphasized that those spreading the notion that the Lagos State Government was responsible for the demolition are engaging in what he described as “fake news.” He characterized them as “opportunistic ethnic chauvinists” who use propaganda to further their divisive agenda. Gawat asserted that their attempts to sow discord among Lagosians would fail, as the government had no role in the decision made by POWA.

He responded by saying that, “Lagos State Government has nothing to do with the demolition at Computer Village in Ikeja. The structure is owned by the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), which ordered its demolition. Those circulating the fake news that Lagos State Government is demolishing Computer Village are opportunistic ethnic chauvinists who will always relish in vacuous propaganda that can fuel their fiendish mission; they will always fail in dividing Lagosians”.
