Due to insecurity, the Kogi State government has advised churches and other places of worship to think about moving from regions that are vulnerable to attacks.
According to reports, this came after Sunday’s attack on a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West Local Government Area of the state.
The pastor, his wife, and other worshippers were kidnapped by armed bandits who had broken into the church during an early morning session.
“Worship centers in the outskirts should also reconsider worshipping in crime-prone areas for now until the situation gets better,” stated Kingsley Fanwo, Commissioner for Information in response.
“I think it’s not ideal to worship in the bush without security in this day and age, just weeks after worshippers were kidnapped from a church in Kwara State.”
“At this time, everyone needs to be mindful of security. Additionally, we must volunteer intelligence.
“I am also aware that the security network, which consists of the local security architecture and traditional security agencies, is now operating as it should. As we wait for security authorities to conduct their investigations and report back to the public, we do not yet have any data.
“We encourage the public to remain vigilant about security and to notify security agencies of any suspicious movements or faces. “Speak up when you see something,” he continued.
