JAMB sets cut-off marks for 2022 admissions.

On Thursday in Abuja, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and tertiary education stakeholders adopted 140 as the minimum cut-off mark for 2022 admission into the nation’s universities.
The cut-off point for polytechnics and educational colleges was set at 100.

The cut-off marks were decided at the 2022 Policy Meeting on Admissions to Degree, Nigerian Certificate of Education (NCE), and National Diploma (ND), which is currently taking place at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Adamu Adamu, the Minister of Education, will preside over the meeting.

Mr Adamu warned Nigerian tertiary institutions against illegal admissions in his opening remarks, stating that all admissions into the country’s universities, Polytechnics, and colleges of education must be processed through the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS).
The minister stated that any tertiary institution head who is found to be engaging in illegal admissions will be prosecuted, even if the violations are discovered after their tenures.

During the meeting, it was decided that “every institution is free to determine the minimum UTME score acceptable to it for admission.” Similarly, each institution will determine the number of points required for direct entry admission. Nonetheless, no institution can recommend or admit a direct entry candidate with fewer than two points.

“In the same vein, no institution can admit/accept a candidate for any degree programme unless the candidate has spent at least two consecutive full-time sessions in the institution.”
The Policy Meeting also agreed that “no institution will be permitted to recommend or admit any candidate whose total score is less than the minimum score proposed by the institution and approved by the Policy Meeting.” The totality of all scores used to rank the candidate shall be considered in determining the percentage minimum score.
