The former presidential political adviser, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has disassociated himself from the coalition negotiations for the 2027 general elections, which are intended to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Baba-Ahmed made it clear that he is not involved in any coalition planning or negotiations during an exclusive media interview.
To be clear, I am not participating in the coalition talks at any level. I’m just an observer who is worried about the way a chance to create a powerful opposition is being handled poorly,” Baba-Ahmed underlined.
He conveyed a great deal of concern about what he called misguided priorities and selfish goals displacing the pressing need for a viable political alternative.
The wrong people are promoting themselves as the spokespersons for this opposition. Nigerians should have new, visionary leaders, not re-elected politicians who want to seize power without a clear plan for the nation, he continued.

Given the backlog of applications at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Baba-Ahmed also questioned if it would be possible to create a new political party in time for the elections.
He asked supporters of the planned alliance to put more effort into restoring public confidence and offering real answers to the nation’s problems than merely trying to unseat the current government.
According to Baba-Ahmed, “if we are serious about change, it must be about the future of Nigeria and not just about swapping one group of politicians for another.”
His comments coincide with an increasing public discussion over whether the opposition is prepared to confront the APC in 2027 in a way that is credible.
