Veteran Nollywood actor Kenneth Okonkwo has charged that President Bola Tinubu usurped Rivers State’s authority by imposing a state of emergency.
Okonkwo continued by saying that Rivers State is now in a constitutional crisis as a result of the suspension of its legislative and executive branches brought on by Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency, which ended in the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the State House of Assembly.
In Rivers State, Tinubu is attempting to duplicate his political base in Lagos State, according to Okonkwo.
However, in order to prevent chaos in the oil-rich state, he said that President Tinubu should lift the suspension in Rivers State now.

The leader of the Labour Party went on to say that, given the current state of affairs, the state has only two choices: either abide by the Constitution and the people’s will or give in to impunity.

According to reports, Okonkwo posted the submission on Sunday using his 𝕏 account.

He added, “The federal suspension of Rivers State’s legislative and executive organs has clearly caused the state to enter a constitutional crisis.

By illegally declaring a fictitious state of emergency, this flagrant violation of state autonomy desecrates our federal system and jeopardizes democratic administration.

“Nigerians must take bold action, as must all advocates of democracy. The people of Rivers State must decide whether to respect the Constitution and the will of the people or give in to impunity.

The entire goal is to eventually move Nigeria closer to Tinubu’s familitocratic government model in Lagos, thus the stakes are quite high. The decision is up to us.

“The elected representatives of Rivers State should be lifted from suspension immediately in order to prevent chaos.”
