After being arrested at Monday’s protest in Abuja, Nnamdi Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and his special counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, were sent by the Nigerian government to the Kuje Magistrate Court on Tuesday.
According to reports, Omoyele Sowore, a politician and activist, organized the demonstration to call for the release of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader who is now in custody.
In a post on 𝕏, Kanu’s younger brother Kanunta revealed the news and accused the government of focusing on Kanu’s family and legal team.
Following their wrongful detention, he said, “Prince Emmanuel Kanu and Barr. Aloy Ejimakor are currently being taken to Kuje Magistrate Court by the Nigerian government.” Ahead of Thursday’s trial, Kanu, his family, and his legal team are being plainly intimidated by this. #KanuForJustice #RuleOfLawUnderAttack
Ejimakor and Emmanuel were among those detained on Monday after demonstrators tried to enter restricted areas of Abuja, the Nigeria Police Force had previously reported. This was in spite of a Federal High Court order that prohibited protests in and around Aso Rock Villa, the National Assembly, Force Headquarters, Court of Appeal, Eagle Square, and Shehu Shagari Way.
Benjamin Hundeyin, a force spokesperson, previously clarified that individuals who were arrested were brought to the Force CID prior to being transferred.
Despite numerous court judgments giving him bail, Kanu, who was re-arrested and extradited to Nigeria in June 2021, has remained in custody.
