The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a warning that its directive that all religious and social gatherings be limited to 50% of the hall capacity is still in effect.
It also urged worship centers planning an elaborate New Year’s Eve religious ritual, dubbed “crossover night,” to obey established authorities and follow all recommended preventive measures and health guidelines.

Ikharo Attah, the Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Monitoring, Inspection, and Enforcement, told journalists in Abuja that the rise in new cases of COVID-19 was alarming, and that the administration would not sit back and watch.
He also stated that the prohibition on nightclubs and other social gatherings where physical separation and non-pharmaceutical protocols are not possible is still in effect.

He revealed that the city recorded an alarmingly disturbing 806 new cases on the 26th of December alone, with 57 new cases on the 27th.
Attah stated that the news on Tuesday, December 28th, that 80 new cases had been reported in the nation’s capital was not encouraging, and that the government and all stakeholders must work together effectively to combat the pandemic.
According to him, FCT Ministers met with religious leaders and other stakeholders on several occasions to create synergy in the fight against the deadly pandemic while also reiterating their commitments to keeping Abuja safe and secure.
While urging religious leaders and residents to follow all of the Covid-19 guidelines issued by the Health and Human Services Secretariat last week, he also stated that an enforcement team would be put in place to track down violators who would be held accountable under the law.

In the new year, he added, the administration will continue to do everything possible to ensure that the capital city is healthy and prosperous, free of diseases and other anti-human elements.
