The Commandant, Air Vice Marshal CA Ohwo in his speech at the POS congratulated all officers nominated for the workshop, says he is confident that the training contents would be of great value to the officers now and upon retirement from service as already observed on Friday June 16th, 2023. This is the mandate of NAFRC to equip retiring personnel of Nigerian Armed Forces with relevant trades and vocational skils for a productive post service life with record of over 47,000 trainees that have graduated from this Centre.

He further stated that it is also on record that most of the trainee graduates are now successful owners of both small and medium scale enterprises across the length and breadth of the country. In order to extend the training to other befitting officers who are actively serving, the DHQ in its wisdom, approved the conduct of Senior officers and Mid-level officers Entrepreneurship and Management Workshops in conjunction with EMPRETEC Nigeria Foundation. Unlike the Pre-discharge training prior to retirement from Service, conducted for other ranks such as Senior Citizens, officers who has the benefit to learn the rudiments of managing small and medium scale enterprises while still in the Service. This greatly shows the importance the Service attaches to the welfare of serving officers and the desire for them to live a fulfilling life in retirement, the commandant stated.

The workshops are conducted in collaboration with Empretec Nigerian Foundation, a private sector initiative of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) whose primary mission is the development, growth and support of small and medium scale enterprises.

As a background, the Senior Officers Entrepreneurship and Management Workshop is designed for officers of the rank of Brig Gen/Maj Gen and equivalents as well as officers of status from paramilitary agencies and MDAS who have put in minimum of 25 years in service. The workshop duration lasted for 2 weeks, However, the period has been reviewed upward to 3 weeks starting from the next course.

NAFRC Vision is to be a world class training institution capable of repositioning not only ex-servicemen but retirees of other paramilitary/security agencies and organisations to cope with the challenges of post service life.

Vice Air Marshal CA Ohwo affirmed that despite the short duration of these courses, he has no doubt that the retiring officers will apply these skills well to be able to leave behind a positive mark.
