After a disappointing draw with Qarabag, Chelsea put in one of their most assured performances of the year. Jules Kounde’s own goal in the first half set the tone, and Ronald Araujo’s dismissal made Barcelona’s task much more difficult.

Limiting Barcelona’s time on the ball was a key component of the strategy, according to Maresca’s post-match remarks.
