Immediate success Abiodun Abayomi Oyebamiji, the Secretary to the Government of Ekiti State and a governorship hopeful, has disputed reports that the state governor is backing him to run in the upcoming governorship election.

Senator Babafemi Ojodu and Adedayo Adeyeye, who quit as governor Fayemi’s SSG earlier this week, denied that splits exist in the Ekiti chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that they will have no choice but to align.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday at the APC’s national secretariat after picking up his nomination forms to run for governorship in Ekiti state in the 2022 election, Oyebamiji stated that if given the chance, he would prioritize the state’s concerns of poverty and insecurity.

“The governor of Ekiti State is the leader of the party in the state, and all aspirants are members of the APC in the state,” he responded when asked if he is the governor’s handpicked candidate. The governor has no favorite candidate; he likes everyone, and the winner will be determined by the primaries. I am not his chosen one. Everyone running is a member of the APC, and he is our leader, and I am confident that we all benefit from his backing.”

“We have a 5-Pillar Agenda,” he said of what he will bring to bear as governor. We are working on a state development master plan, and whatever we do must fit into those two documents, and as is customary, we communicate with the public to determine their needs.

“We shall take a bottom-up approach to government.” We will speak with them and inquire about their wants, which will be accommodated in the development plan.”

“I am not aware of any faction in Ekiti state APC,” the governorship hopeful remarked when questioned about some dissatisfied members of the APC in Ekiti chapter, such as Babafemi Ojodu and Dayo Adeyeye, among others. Politics is a game of ideas, and there are many different perspectives on how things should be done. The APC, on the other hand, is a single family.

“As far as the individuals you mentioned (referring to Babafemi Ojodu and Dayo Adeyeye) remaining in APC, we are one family, and even within the family, there are differences, so it isn’t a huge thing.” There are no factions in APC that I am aware of. We recently held congresses, and I’m sure everyone attended; the party has also put in place mechanisms for individuals who are interested to come and choose their form, so there are no factions in the APC in Ekiti state; we are all one.”
