Commotion as security personnel, NSCDC clash in Owerri.

By Naomisophyblog

The usual but divisive sit-at-home order in the South East took a new turn yesterday when armed police stormed the state headquarters of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, shooting indiscriminately.

Some residents of Okigwe Road and Works Layout, who were alerted to the situation, said they scurried into their rooms for safety.

The shooting spree was between the police and NSCDC personnel,” said a businessman who operates in the area and spoke on the condition of anonymity. According to my understanding, a police officer was arrested and detained by NSCDC officers for an unspecified infraction. I also learned that he alerted his colleagues, and the NSCDC was stormed.

It’s unclear whether they were successful in getting their man released from detention. It’s also unclear whether anyone was killed in the process, but the widespread gunfire was uncalled for.
“Rather than enforcing laws, the invading police officers should have taken a more civilised approach to resolving whatever issue arose.

” I expect the state’s commissioner of police to apprehend and prosecute those who attacked the NSCDC headquarters.”

Mr. Mike Abattam, the Police Public Relations Officer, rebuffed all attempts to get him to confirm the incident, saying, “Really?” “What happened?” you might wonder.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed gory pictures have begun to circulate online, allegedly as a result of the shooting in Owerri.
A young boy was found in a pool of his own blood, and another’s leg was shattered.
