Nigeria is amenable to further military and security cooperation with the United States in the fight against terrorist organizations and bandits in the country’s northern region, according to First Lady Remi Tinubu.
She reportedly said that the U.S. strikes on Christmas Day were a boon to Nigeria and that she hoped the two countries would continue to work together.
Mrs. Tinubu discussed the airstrikes, which targeted terrorist targets in Sokoto, while on a visit to the United States.
She also joined former U.S. President Donald Trump, who had ordered the strikes, at the National Prayer Breakfast.
Mrs. Tinubu stated that the government is addressing the problems and that the measures provided Nigeria with respite while the nation continues to experience attacks that have killed many people.
“The United States’ engagement was a very positive development.
“Nigeria looks forward to collaboration” on security matters with the United States. During a week-long trip to Washington, D.C., Tinubu told Fox News Digital, “We are expecting that there will be more.”
The U.S. launched its first direct military operation in Nigeria on Christmas Day.
In the past, President Trump had threatened to use airstrikes if terrorists did not stop attacks on Christians.
He reaffirmed that the United States will not permit extremist organizations to flourish under his direction and called the operations a gift to the nation.
