As the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Acting National Chairman, May Agbamuche has been appointed.
According to reports, Agbamuche received the handover from Professor Mahmood Yakubu during a meeting with resident electoral commissioners at INEC headquarters on Tuesday in Abuja.
The electoral body acknowledges Agbamuche as the National Commissioner with the longest tenure.
During his remarks, Professor Mahmood invited the commission’s directors and commissioners to fully support Agbamuche until a permanent chairman was chosen.
Mahmood took over as acting chairman on October 21, 2015, after Amina Zakari was removed by then-President Muhammadu Buhari.
In November 2025, Professor Yakubu will step down as INEC chairman after serving two 10-year terms.
Details will be shared later.
