Prince Emmanuel Kanu, Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother, and his primary attorney, Aloy Ejimakor, were arrested during Monday’s #FreeNnamdiKanuNow rally in the Federal Capital Territory. The Magistrate Court in Kuje, Abuja, has ordered their remand.
In a post on 𝕏, Kanunta Kanu, another brother of the IPOB leader, denounced the decision and claimed a larger conspiracy.
The principal attorney in Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, and his younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, were placed under remand by the Kuje court. The executive, legislative, and judicial branches are conspiring to thwart Kanu’s trial on Thursday,” he said.
In a previous post on his 𝕏 handle, Professor Chidi Odinkalu, the former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, confirmed the arraignment and criticized the charges.
“Today, @PoliceNG secretly arraigned Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, @AloyEjimakor, and his brother Kanunta before a Kuje magistrate on the most baseless charges after they upended the lives of the majority of people in Abuja yesterday. Mr. Ejimakor is now even known as “Aliyu.” Odinkalu wrote.
According to court records, the two and ten other people were charged with instigating disruption and violating public peace in defiance of an existing court order.
By blocking major roadways, chanting war songs, and demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the incarcerated leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the group allegedly impeded free movement in Abuja, according to the charge sheet.
Omoyele Sowore, an activist, organized the demonstration to call for Kanu’s release from DSS custody.
