Opposition critiques of the 2027 general election schedule have been rebuffed by Ajibola Basiru, National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who characterized them as politically driven and misguided.

Basiru said that the Independent National Electoral Commission’s schedule was strictly compliant with the Electoral Act in an interview with Saturday Punch on Friday.

In response to requests for a timetable review, the APC scribe maintained that opposition figures’ outrage was unjustified.

They are humorous people. According to the recently established electoral law, the schedule was released,” he stated.

He claims that the opposition’s response shows that they are ill-prepared for the 2027 elections.

Instead than publicly criticizing the timetable, Basiru recommended resentful parties to pursue legal action if they feel it violates the law.

“Their lamentation only demonstrates their tardiness and lack of preparation,” he said. Is it their intention to establish a schedule for the election in which they wish to take part?

“They may choose to boycott the elections politically or contest the schedule in court if they are so convinced that something bad has happened.”

In recent days, opposition parties have criticized the updated schedule, claiming that it imposes strict timelines that will hurt them in the run-up to the 2027 general elections.
