Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has prophesied that the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) will be deposed by March/April 2023.

The newly installed leader of the main opposition party made the announcement while speaking to Benue PDP stakeholders at Government House in Makurdi, Benue State, over the weekend.

While referring to the ruling party as “a contraption,” Ayu also stated that by 2023, the PDP will have won at least 25 state governorships.

The former Senate president also promised stakeholders, including governorship hopefuls, that the party will not force candidates on the people in the 2023 general elections, according to a statement released by his media office and made accessible to journalists in Abuja on Sunday.

“By March/April 2023, there would be no APC in Nigeria,” he said in the statement. The APC is a ruse, a ruse to get power, but they have no program or ideological viewpoint on how to use that power.

“Like a result, we will return to every state and the federal level to seize power, armed with a comprehensive plan of action and the ability to implement practical programs as we did before.”

Ayu heaped admiration on Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, claiming that he has followed in the footsteps of the late Moses Adasu in backing his political ambitions.

He denied claims of a rivalry with ex-Senate President David Mark, claiming that it was Mark who advised him to run for the PDP national chairperson.

“I am telling you this tale because it proves that whenever we are united in Benue, Nigeria would not ignore us,” the party’s leader added.

“This isn’t the first time we’ve triumphed thanks to our combined efforts. When they stated there was federal might in 2019, we responded the allied forces of Benue were prepared for it. And we were able to defeat the federal government’s might.”

“I urge us to continue to work together,” Ayu stated, while urging for party unity and respect for democratic decisions. Don’t be terrified of the federal government’s power. Benue’s Allied Forces are still as strong as ever. Today, we are even more powerful.

“I feel that once the list is transmitted to Abuja, whoever emerges as a contender for any elected office, I do not want Gov. Ortom or his candidates to come to the lobby.” This is because the people of Benue will have their decisions honored at all times.”

On the country’s dismal security condition, particularly the daily killings, he expressed regret for Nigerians’ destiny but urged them not to lose hope, as the PDP is on its way to save and restore the devastated country.

“Nigerians, do not lose hope. Don’t give up on Nigeria simply because a small group of people has arrived to destabilize the country. Let us join hands and drive them out, so we may regain and restore our country,” he declared.

As the PDP begins its rescue operation for the country, Ayu asked party members to work at the ward level.
