Nentewe Yilwatda, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has said that people who leave the party will not be able to take over its leadership structures.
Yilwatda said this to reporters after a closed-door meeting with party members from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Tuesday in Abuja.
He said that people who leave their parties and want to run for office must show that their resignation letters were accepted by their former party chairmen.
Yilwatda said, “If you are in opposition, you must give a resignation letter and show proof that your resignation was accepted by your former party chairman.”
He made it clear that there was a difference between people who had been in the party from the beginning and those who had just joined. He said that the interests of both groups would be protected without one group taking over the other.
“It is a house that we made. He said, “No one will come if the house isn’t built, so no one should come as a warrior and take over.”
He went on to say that the answer was a planned power-sharing formula that made sure both groups were included.
Yilwatda said, “We need to include everyone; there will be a sharing formula that will make sure that all members of the legacy group and defectors are properly carried along.”
