Anthony Joshua, a British-Nigeria heavyweight boxer, has agreed in principle to fight Arslanbek Makhmudov, a Russian contender, in 2026.
In an interview with Boxing News, Makhmudov, who is 6′ 5″, disclosed that Joshua had a positive reaction to a quick Instagram conversation. Although their chat was cordial, the Russian, known as “The Lion,” claimed it spoke to something more significant that was imminent.
“Yes, we had a brief conversation on Instagram,” Makhmudov admitted. “Just being friendly, you know. “All right, next year,” he answered when I offered him the next bout. Next year, we can accomplish it.
The fighter from Montreal has already set his sights on Joshua and will take on British veteran Dave Allen this weekend in Sheffield. He has a personal edge in the fight.

Though negotiations for a comeback bout in Nigeria are still ongoing, Joshua is anticipated to return to the ring early next year after losing to Daniel Dubois at Wembley last September.
Plans are being considered for Joshua’s much anticipated return home, according to promoter Dr. Ezekiel Adamu, who with former world champion Amir Khan co-organized the Chaos in the Ring event in Lagos.
In the meantime, Congolese heavyweight Martin Bakole has added his name to the mix and demanded what he called a “Rumble in the Jungle II.”
“I would definitely accept the fight with Anthony Joshua,” Bakole said to Sky Sports. He is aware of what transpired during the spar. Without a doubt, I will knock him out if we enter the ring.
