Low Igbo membership registration could cost former Anambra State governor Peter Obi the party’s presidential ticket, according to Don Norman Obinna, chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abia State.
Speaking over the weekend in Umuahia as a special guest at the inauguration of the executive members of the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) for Ikwuano, Umuahia North, and Umuahia South LGAs, Obinna reportedly revealed this.
He claims that if the previous Labour Party presidential candidate doesn’t get a lot of votes, he might not win the ADC presidential primary.
To increase Peter Obi’s chances, Obinna encouraged party members in the State and other South-East lovers to take part in the ongoing online e-registration.
The ADC Chairman bemoaned the fact that, according to the organization’s current membership registration chart, approximately 400,000 people have joined in Abia State thus far, while the number for Adamawa State is getting close to one million.
“It is not just about wanting Peter Obi to be President; the question should be how we deliver Peter Obi,” he stated.
According to the ADC online registration table, Adamawa has about 1 million members, whereas Abia has about 400,000. I want to know if Peter Obi will win if the primary election is held today.
He called on COPDEM members and ADC members in general to promote awareness and demand excellent leadership and governance.
Speaking at the inauguration, Prince Solomon, the chairman of COPDEM in Abia State, and Ogbonna Abarikwu, a candidate for the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal seat in the House of Representatives, urged Nigerians to reject poor leadership.
